An educationalist and researcher, Philippe Meirieu is professor emeritus of education sciences at Université Lumière Lyon 2. A figure of the French school debate since the 1980s, he headed the Institut national de recherche pédagogique and then the IUFM of Lyon, and defends a school that teaches every pupil without sorting them, combining demanding knowledge with the emancipation of each person.
