Paul Emilieu Marchesseau: “A philosopher of technology (1952-2020), Bernard Stiegler saw every tool as both remedy and poison. He championed an economy of contribution in which everyone becomes a producer of knowledge again.”

French philosopher of technology, Bernard Stiegler built his work around technics understood as pharmakon, at once poison and remedy. In the volumes of La technique et le temps, begun in 1994, he argued that human beings are constituted by their tools, and that industrial then digital technologies reshape memory, attention and desire. He co-founded the group Ars Industrialis in 2005, directed the Institut de recherche et d'innovation at the Centre Pompidou from 2006, and ran the Pharmakon school
