A political scientist born in 1952 and raised on La Réunion, Françoise Vergès works on the legacies of colonial slavery, state racism and decolonial feminisms. She chaired the Comité national pour la mémoire et l'histoire de l'esclavage from 2008 to 2012, then held the Global South(s) chair at the Collège d'études mondiales of the Fondation Maison des sciences de l'homme in Paris.
