Belgian labour lawyer (1926-2015) and professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles. She argued the landmark 1976 Defrenne v. Sabena case before the European Court of Justice, which held that the equal-pay provision of the Treaty of Rome had direct horizontal effect on private employment contracts. The ruling reshaped European social law and remains the foundation of EU sex-equality jurisprudence.
