Florian Guillaume: “Urban ecological restoration at scale with an exemplary educational dimension, a rare model of city/ocean reconciliation.”

Restoring oyster reefs to New York Harbor, one of the most ambitious urban ecological restoration projects in the world. The reefs filter 50 gallons of water per oyster per day, create habitat for hundreds of marine species, and form a living barrier against storm surge and coastal erosion. Co-founded by Murray Fisher and Pete Malinowski, Billion Oyster Project has now placed 100M+ oysters back into the harbor. The educational model is exceptional: 8,000+ NYC public school students per year work
