Architect & Researcher · Technology
Professor Neri Oxman founded the Mediated Matter group at MIT, developing 'material ecology': architecture and design that treats natural biological materials as computational media. Key work: Aguahoja, pavilions grown from chitosan (shrimp shells), cellulose (plant fibers) and pectin (apple), programmed to biodegrade in water. The Silk Pavilion: 17,000 silkworms spin a structural membrane guided by robotics. MX3D: first metal 3D-printed bridge in Amsterdam. Oxman left MIT in 2019 and is buildin
